Three ways to feel normal again
When you are sick of being sick
Cold and flu season is upon us. We watch as those around us succumb to the fevers, aches, chills, and stuffiness that come with the territory.
I do not get sick very often, but when it happens, it lands on me like a ton of bricks. That is why I do everything in my power to avoid people or places where those pesky germs may lurk.
Miraculously, I had avoided the cold or flu for over five years. Was I lucky or careful? Perhaps a bit of both.
That is, until two days ago when I settled in with my morning coffee…and felt that familiar tickle in the back of my throat, indicating the start of a massive cold.
Uh oh, I thought. Here it comes…
By that evening, my head ached, my sinuses closed up like a vault, and my throat was raw from constant coughing. Today, it is no better, forcing me to take a rare sick day from work.
I admit to not being a good sick person. Where everyone hates being sick, I really hate being sick.
The reason is the loss of control over myself. It is the feeling that something else outside of my influence is keeping me from living my life under my terms.
