Finding strength in solitude
How to go it alone
On a whim, I took a day off work and decided to hike at one of the state parks near where I live. Summer is almost over, and not being in an office on a beautiful sunny day was too good to pass up.
When you reach a certain age, it becomes more difficult to find people willing or able to make spontaneous plans with. Others my age seem to lose the will to just do something without over-thinking or planning everything in excruciating detail.
So, I decided to go hiking alone. And it was an awesome experience.
It strikes me as odd that so many people feel uncomfortable doing things in solitude. I know people who will cancel any plans if they cannot find someone to do it with.
Really? Why?
